THE REGION
Lofer, St. Martin, Unken and Weißbach
Like most Alpine regions, the history of the Saalach Valley began with the construction of rural farmsteads many centuries ago. Mining or the central location on trade routes favoured individual villages. Otherwise, there was no industry or trade which could have improved the very simple life and meagre income.
However, this was already the beginning of the tremendous development into one of the world’s most popular living and holiday regions.
The preservation of the rural cultural landscape, the conservation of our magnificent natural space and a relatively low level of industrialisation make our region one of the most relaxing and pleasant places to live in the world.
As you drive through our country, you will see how land and people, animals and humans live together peacefully.
